Summer is approaching, and it’s time to wear dresses again. Are you still suffering from excessive hairiness? How to remove hair efficiently and safely has become a hot topic. Some recommend shaving, and some recommend laser hair removal treatments. Today, let’s talk about hair removal.
How many hair removal methods?
Let’s start by understanding a few of the common types of hair removal. Based on the principle, hair removal methods can be broadly divided into three main categories: Shaving off hair, uprooting hair and laser hair removal.
“Shaving off the hair“, removing the hair on the outside of the skin surface, mainly with a shaver or hair removal cream. This type of method is quick, but the effect is not long-lasting.
Because the roots are plucked out, the effect lasts a long time and the new growth does not poke.
“Uprooting hair”, pulling out the entire hair with the external force of tweezers and beeswax. Therefore, this type of method is full of pain, stretching and irritation of the skin.
“Laser hair removal”, using a specific laser, pulsed light to blast the hair melanin. This in turn destroys the conditions for hair growth and allows the hair to be cut off.
This type of treatment can really reduce hair growth almost permanently. However, it requires several operations to achieve the expected results and is slow to take effect.
Which hair removal method is best?
After having tried all these methods, I have come up with a table for your reference:
How many types of laser hair removal are there?
Their most common types of hair removal laser systems include the IPL SHR, Diode laser, and Alexandrite laser. Each laser system is different from the other. Some lasers are better for certain types of hair; Some lasers are safer for individuals with darker skin tones.
IPL SHR hair removal:
IPL (or Intense Pulsed Light) uses a single pulse of energy, at high intensity, to target the client’s hair follicles and melanin.
Through releasing a wavelength spectrum of 420nm-1200nm directly into the dermis to damage the hair follicles without causing too much damage to the skin. This makes IPL more suitable for people with darker and coarser hair.
SHR or Super Hair Removal is a relatively newer technology which uses low energy and rapid pulsing diode laser but at a higher frequency. This diode laser hair removal technology will heat the skin gently, but with rapid pulses, the energy is then accumulated by the skin. While 50% of the energy targets the melanin (similar to IPL), the other 50% targets the stem cells responsible for hair production.
Compare to IPL vs SHR hair removal, SHR is the better alternative to IPL.
Diode laser hair removal:
Laser hair removal treatments are to deliver high energy into the skin to be selectively absorbed by the melanin surrounding the follicle whilst protecting the surrounding tissue.
Diode lasers use a single wavelength of light that has a high absorption rate in melanin. At the same time, it incorporates skin cooling to protect the surface of the skin. As the melanin heats up, it destroys the root and blood flow to the follicle and disables the hair permanently.
Besides, diode lasers with the ability to deliver high-frequency low fluence pulses can be safely used on all skin types.
Comparing IPL vs laser, laser hair removal treatment will more be accurate and effective.
Alexandrite 755nm laser hair removal:
The Alexandrite laser 755nm Hair Removal is more efficient because it is the best absorption wavelength for melanin. It can hit even fine and soft light coloured hairs, but it is more painful. To reduce pain, the treatment handle is usually equipped with a liquid nitrogen cold jet.
808nm diode laser is much more comfortable than a 755nm laser, but it is less efficient and requires more shots to achieve the same results as 755nm.
How many laser hair removal treatments?
Now, I will share with you two cases of treatment from close friends.
Firstly, Tony, who was born hairy, is hairier than a man.
“The Trilaser laser hair removal 808nm has been very effective for me. After the third time, except for a few underarm, lip and bikini hairs, the hairs are now mostly gone.
After 6 treatments, I really appreciated what a breath of fresh air and relaxation is all about!
Because it is equipped with a cooling plate, the pain is lighter and overall it is quite comfortable. There will be normal signs of redness and swelling of the hair follicles just after the procedure, so don’t worry. Just remember to protect yourself from the sun afterwards.”
Secondly, Peggy with wire-like hair is hard and full.
“I had the diode laser treatment at the same hospital as Peggy, also for 6 sessions. But because I have twice the amount of hair as she does, the results are halved.
Then, I did choose the alex 755nm laser treatment. It’s a miracle that 60% of the hair was knocked out after a few sessions. And the subsequent growth of hair is also of a fine and soft form.
But the pain is more intense, especially in the sensitive bikini area. If unbearable, it is recommended to apply anaesthetic.”
In conclusion, the number of laser hair removal treatments varies from person to person. People with fine, thin hair may be able to completely remove their hair with 3~4 sessions; 6 treatments for people with moderate hair is more than enough; For wire-like hairs with the most suitable for hair removal 755nm emerald laser full 6 times, only 60% of it is removed.
